Over the last few months I've seen a dramatic rise in breakins, where the cylinder in upvc or composite doors has been attacked and in most cases the door has been opened.

At Winlock we have always advised the use of a British standard cylinder 1 star as a minium, of course there are other higher security cylinders and depending on your budget they are the better option.

As an addition a stronger handle should also be used, normally a 2 star British standard, which would effectively turn a 1 star cylinder into a 3 star lock.

The criminals are always looking at the easiest way into your home, and some of the videos on YouTube and Facebook are giving them the ideas and partial knowledge to obtain access into your home. However implementing the measures discussed above will almost certainly deny them access, but will also put them off the attempt in the first place.
